MONTEMARCELLO Montemarcello

The walls on the east part of the village, the gate facing Ameglia as well as the church dedicated to St. Peter still saving precious canvas paintings date back to the 15th century. Some minute spent walking and here is Punta Corvo: from here you have a beautiful view of the Gulf of La Spezia, the promontory of Porto Venere and of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto islands. While walking you can contemplate the Apuane Alps and especially the Mount Sagro.
Don’t miss to visit the botanic garden of Montemarcello located on the peak of the Mount Murlo 365 meters on the sea level, in a scenic position between the sea and the Apuane Alps. The botanic garden that can be reached walking through the paths of the reserve, is divided into sections you can visit following a guided path and where a number of autochthonous flowers and plants grow.

Santa Croce Monastery:
It was built in 1176 by the Benedictines on the ruins of an ancient church erected by a monk in remembrance of a boat mysteriously landed without seamen, shipping the Cross of Nicodemo and the relic of his blood. The apse and part of the presbytery are all that remains of the ancient church.

BOCCA DI MAGRA Bocca di Magra

This is a small village of fishermen still saving an important historical and artistic proof: the Roman villa extending with its rooms on terraces sloping gently down to the sea, facing the port of the near village of Luni.
The first archaeological finds dates back to the 1st century B.C., while the thermal area and its very attractive system of heated pools is traced back to the 4th century AD.

AMEGLIA Ameglia

It is an ancient medieval village with all its features unchanged. It dates back to the Roman Age and its 10th-century defensive tower, its 13th-century palace-castle and its 15th-century church dedicated to St. Vincent are still there.
